April showers bring May flowers… and, the kick off of another summer season at the Hollywood Farmers Market.
Summer season kicks off on Saturday, May 3 at the Hollywood Farmers Market (HFM)! To celebrate the new season, we’ll have cooking demos throughout the day as well as live music and face painting. For the first 200 customers, we’ll be giving away a free plant start from one of our vendors! Come by the information booth after 8am on May 3rd to pick up your plant start while supplies last.
This season we’re continuing our kids’ programs with a series of kids’ cooking demos! Joanna Sooper from Turnip the Heat cooking school will be at the market once a month starting in May. Each month she’ll be leading our “market sprouts” (all our young customers, that is) in cooking demos featuring a particular vegetable or fruit. All demos are free, of course. Demos will run from 9:30 am to noon. The schedule for the 2014 Kids Cooking Demos:
May 17: Salad Greens
June 21: Strawberries
July 12: Peas and Carrots
August 9: Peaches
September 13: Tomatoes
You can learn more about Joanna and her cooking classes at www.turniptheheatcooking.com
We are looking forward to welcoming back many of our returning farmers and vendors to the market and we’re excited to introduce you to some new ones. Some of our new vendors to the market this year are: Fraga Farmstead Creamery, with fresh and aged goat cheeses; Mariam Foods, Ethiopian-inspired vegan and gluten free dips; and Kelly’s Jelly, award winning handmade jams and jellies.
The complete list of vendors can be found at https://hollywoodfarmersmarket.org/wordpress/vendors/.
Lastly, are you looking for a way to show your love for the Hollywood Farmers Market?! It is not too late to volunteer at HFM this summer. Stop by the information booth anytime to get information on all of our volunteer opportunities. We would love to have you join us!
