At Hollywood Farmers Market (HFM) our mission is to celebrate the bounty of Oregon and Washington agriculture through the operation of community-based farmers markets and other ventures that support small farms and healthy urban neighborhoods. We work to host community-based, celebratory farmers markets that draw a diversity of people throughout the year to meet old friends, make new ones, and shop the bounty of Oregon agriculture. Our markets strive to be environmentally sustainable, socially responsible, and educational for all ages.
We are a small organization that runs both the Hollywood and Lloyd Farmers Markets. We have 2 year-round staff (our Market Director and Coordinator) and two seasonal staff (the Kids Program Coordinator and our Token Program Coordinator). If you are excited about supporting the local food system and like working in a fast-paced environment, this could be a great match for you!
Job Summary
The Token Program is a critical part of Hollywood Farmers Market’s food access programming, as it enables customers to use their SNAP / EBT food benefits, credit cards, and other payment methods to buy fresh food at our markets. These payments are exchanged for wooden tokens, which are then used to purchase market goods. On market days, the The Token Program Coordinator (TPC) is responsible for operating the credit/EBT machine at the market, selling tokens, providing customer service, maintaining accurate records of token transactions, and helping to set up and break down the Information Booth. The TPC will return to the office later in the week to count the tokens, add the numbers to our database and work with the Market Coordinator to ensure accurate accounting. The TPC reports directly to the Market Director.
Qualifications and Skills
This employee should be detail-oriented, computer literate, and possess excellent customer service skills. The TPC must be willing to work outside in varying weather conditions on market days and have the ability to perform some heavy lifting, squatting, reaching and other physical tasks. Interest in community food systems and farmers markets is a plus!
Hollywood Farmers Market takes the utmost precautions to keep its employees safe during the COVID-10 pandemic. Masks, frequent hand-washing, and wiping of surfaces is required at the market; social distancing and staggered work hours are observed at the office.
