The Hollywood Farmers Market is known for its family-friendly atmosphere featuring live music, children’s entertainment and seasonal special events throughout the summer!
Market Tours
Want to learn more about the Hollywood Farmers Market? This year we’re starting a series of weekly market tours, with
the goal of bringing you more information on the farmers market and what makes it unique!
These tours will cover the following:
- Background information and the history of the Hollywood Farmers Market
- HFM’s token program and different payment methods at the market
- CSAs and other ways to support local farmers
- Bulk purchasing from farms at the market
- Volunteering at the market
- And more!
We’ll also hear from some of our farmers, and talk to them about their growing practices and what the market means to them. Tours will be led by market volunteers and will begin at the information booth, on the corner of 44th and Hancock, at 11am each week (with the exception of Saturday, May 11th, on which the tour will be at 9am).
Fun for Kids
Our new program, Sprouting Stories will create connections to the market and fun for the whole family! To participate our “market sprouts” (all of our young customers, that is) will tell stories about the market in their Sprouting Stories journal. The booklets can be picked up on the first Kids’ Day on June 29th. The kids are asked to fill out one page per week and tell us about an activity they completed in the market. (For example, one page will say, “I spoke with a farmer today.”) After you fill out ten pages, you turn in your booklet and get a $5 token to spend at the market! Stories can be told with words, drawings, photos and more. The second Kids’ Day on September 14th, will celebrate the closing of Sprouting Stories for the season.
Both Kids’ Day events will feature music and activities geared especially towards young market shoppers!
And of course, Crista the face painter will be back in the market this season. You’ll find her in the center of Hancock Street, twice a month through October.
Market Music
Each week, May through November, we showcase local bands that are fun for the whole family! Musical performances span a range of genres including folk, bluegrass, marimba, African, rock and roll, country, and Latin American.
We start to put together the music calender in March for the summer season. If you are a musician or entertainer interested in performing at the Hollywood Farmers Market, please contact the Market Manager at info@hollywoodfarmersmarket.org.
Cooking Demonstrations & Special Events
Themed cooking demonstrations and special events are just another way that we celebrate the seasonal bounty that comes through the Hollywood Farmers Market. We are still planning the 2013 summer schedule but you can check out our monthly calendar for information soon!
